A wrongful death is a death that was caused through the fault of another person. Both individuals and companies can be found liable in wrongful death cases. The most common cases of wrongful death are:

Traffic or boating accidents
Defective products
Nursing home neglect

Typically speaking, a wrongful death case will attempt to determine the amount of income the deceased person would have earned in their lifetime to figure out monetary damages. A lot of peple ask me how the legal system works in the U.S. or what is the difference between a federal or state law; or between a civil case or a criminal case. My answer is always the same: “The legal system is like the instructions of a game that you just bought. If you don’t understand them, not only are you not going to kow how to play the game, but also you will have less chances of winning.”
